Maybe you've got the warning 'Your connection is unstable' or the connection is unstable when using the Zoom application. This appears because there is an error in the network quality.
For that, you need to reduce network usage to stay under the data limit. Here's how to save on internet data usage when using Zoom, as quoted by oxibox from Cornell University.
1. Turn off the camera when not needed.
In less important meetings, turning off the camera is the easiest way to reduce the amount of data coming in and going out. So it's better to disable the attendee camera for the meeting you are organizing.
2. Turn off HD videos.
Videos in HD resolution require more data at a higher rate, so consider turning them off when the quality of the image you're sending doesn't really matter.
Here's how to turn off HD videos on Zoom
- Open Zoom, click Settings (gear icon).
- Click Videos in the left menu.
- In the My Video section, uncheck the box next to Enable HD if it is checked.
3. Only Share Screen When Needed.
Be sure to stop screen sharing when you no longer need to display the screen. Also, ask other users to turn off their screen sharing.
For details on turning screen sharing on and off, see the Share Your Screen feature on the Zoom website.
4. Turn off Audio.
While it doesn't use as much bandwidth as your video, you can also reduce bandwidth by muting audio when not talking. Use the Mute button in the lower-left corner of the Zoom screen to toggle audio on and off.
You might also consider using phone calls to connect to Zoom meeting audio instead of using computer audio in meetings.
5. Use the cloud recording option for Zoom meetings.
Host staff recording Zoom sessions can take advantage of Zoom's cloud recording options and do not need to be uploaded from your computer.
6. Avoid running data-consuming applications during a Zoom session.
Improve the overall performance of your Zoom client by not running other applications during a meeting that may also be using up a large part of your bandwidth.
Examples of programs that can consume data bandwidth are video or music streaming sites, or other websites with dynamic content.***
